New England

New England

I was born in Connecticut which is part of an area known as New England. It consists of the states of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island. Over the years I have had many interests such as sports, girls, cars, movies, work and family. Since my son has been in Massachusetts I have been going there to visit regularly. In doing so I have looked for things to do with my family that would be interesting to all. I have discovered, along with my interest in history, that there are a great many things to see there. Not all have historical connection. My interest in knowing the area has been rekindled as the urge to go home happens in older people.

I hink this to be one of the most varied and beautiful parts of my country. The beaches and ocean are accessible from almost anywhere in a short time. I went on a Windjammer cruise on the Bay of Maine that was the most peaceful and enjoyable of experiences. I saw the whales feeding off the coast of Massachusetts and it was truly awesome.

My favorite destination is the White Mountains also know as the Presidential Mountain Range. Located in New Hampshire and capped by Mount Washington it is truly a natural wonder and very inspiring. The Mount Washington Observstory was the site of the highest wind speed recorded of 231 mph in April of 1934. The building where the people were sheltered during this event is still there and you will see huge chains over the building anchored in the rock. This is also a beautiful ski area in the fall, winter and spring. Hiking is great and there are a lot of rivers and lakes. I was at the summit of Mount Washington on my 69th birthday.  BEWARE the water in New England is cold. In August the water temperature for swimming off the schooner Nathaniel Bowden was 54 degrees fahrenheit.
